For any of my type A friends out there, this is for you. I have come across sooo many people lately who are severely struggling with perfectionism in their businesses. Let me say something here: perfectionism is debilitating. It inhibits progress and it takes ease away from your business, not to mention it’s a total time-waster.
It’s definitely not worth it to struggle and not feel at ease in your business when you don’t need to. So, I have come up with 6 ways for you to start kicking perfectionism today so that you can FINALLY step into your power and run your business with ease:
Create a Strategy that Works for You
Start playing around with different strategies to find what works the best for you.
Implementing something like setting a time limit to get a particular project done could be incredibly helpful. This way you have a limit, you can’t procrastinate, it’ll pressure you enough not to stall, and you will get done whatever it is you need to get done without spending the extra time perfecting it.
But don't be afraid to play around and test out a couple different strategies until you find what works for you. And don't allow yourself to feel discouraged by any that don't suit you! Keep trying more and you WILL find the right one.
Accept Your Mistakes
Everyone makes mistakes, right? Well, the problem is that we, as humans, tend to hold onto our mistakes and use them as ammo to dislike ourselves. We use our mistakes as reasons why we shouldn’t be doing certain things. And we use them as reasons to spend extra time on creating things so we don’t make the same mistakes again.
Instead of making yourself feel bad for making a mistake, embrace the imperfection. Accept that you made a mistake, forgive yourself, learn something from the mistake and move on. Don’t dwell.
Then, stop worrying about what others are thinking of you. Jack Canfield says, “What others think about you is none of your business.” And that is the absolute truth. No one expects you to be perfect because no one is. Besides, making mistakes makes you seem like a real person. So, own your truth, step into your power and nothing anyone else says about you will matter.
Celebrate Every Small Victory
As you start to work on yourself and pull away from perfectionism, celebrate every victory-small or large- along the way. When you focus on the positives, it will only make you want to go further, to continue improving, to better things.
Always Remember that Done is Better than Perfect
This is the last thought I want to leave you with- Done is Always better than perfect. Always. I once heard that Apple releases their products when they are 75% sure they’re good. Then, they fix the products as the mistakes are found. No one thinks poorly of Apple because of it, and no one would think poorly of you if you did it either.
As with most struggles of the mindset, getting free from perfectionism WILL NOT happen overnight. It is something that will take ample time, effort and energy on your end to make it happens. Just remember that the sooner you get started, the sooner you can step into your light, run your business with ease and no longer waste hours and hours of your time on unnecessary work!
